RIVA DEL GARDA HOTELS - All hotels in Riva del Garda
Riva del Garda is probably the most popular holiday resort on the Garda Lake. Archeological findings prove that it was inhabited as early as in the Bronze-Iron Age and in the 13th century Riva del Garda was an important commercial centre, after the trade and commerce between Italy and Germany developed. Becoming main warehousing centre between the two countries quickly improved Riva's status and its citizens' wealth. Napoleonic troops occupied the town in 1796 and Napoelon binded it to Bavaria. Italians regained its influence quick after that, but, anyway, the Congress of Vienna gave the town to Austria and remained under Austrian rules until 1918.
The travel industry began to develop in the middle of the 19th century and quickly began the most profitable business. Riva was already well known for high level of life and it was not difficultto attract famous people to visit the beautiful resort. Thomas Mann, Friedrich Nuietzsche, Franz Kafka and Max Brod are only a couple of well known, educated people.
