LIMONE HOTELS - All hotels in Limone sul Garda
Although most of you will think that the town's name stems from the name of a popular citrus fruit, lemon, it does not. In fact, the name of that tiny, only one square kilometer big, village comes from the word "limem" meaning in Latin "border". The town is in fact a group of houses situated at the foot of the mountain, surrounded by forrests, valleys and rocky cliffs. Among places that are worth a visit there are: St. Peter's Chapel - one of the oldest places in th earea. Built by the Romans, it was witnessing Limone's history. At the northern end of the village, the San Rocco Chapel is located. It was built in the 16th century, by survivors of the plague and is now surrounded by lemon groves.
The town is the main tourist centre of the Upper Lake Garda Park. The Park is around 38,000 hectares large and consist of nine municipalities. Visitors have a chance to see the variety of the mediterranean fauna and flora. However, if you go further from the lake shore, you will notice significant change of the landscape to more mountainous type. Terrains neighbouring the northern part of the lake are a great place for mountain biking, no matter whether you are professional or not. Limone is home for the "Bike Extreme" - the toughest mountain bike competition. Travelers preferring to walk shall take advantage of abundance of olive groves allowing spectacular views onto the lake. In order to learn a bit of history and see some traditional work, visit the Agricultural Cooperative Possidenti Olivetti di Limone sul Garda. The company produces oil following traditional techniques. Visitors can attend the cooperative from August to October and buy its produce all year round.
